The Pat’s Difference

At Pat’s Schoolhouse, we believe that the impact we make on young minds can empower and encourage them to become Challengers of the Future. We are committed to inspiring every child to be BOLD, VIVACIOUS, and INSPIRING, and an independent thinker who can take on the world one little step at a time.
Pat’s Primary Pillars
The pedagogy at Pat’s Schoolhouse is guided and framed by these five primary pillars conceptualised to prepare children for the global stage in the future world:

21st Century Skillsets
In a fast-changing and increasingly globalised world, it is important for the children of today to develop competencies like Critical and Inventive Thinking, Communications Skills, Collaborative Skills, and more, so they can become effective leaders of tomorrow. With a strong emphasis on a full suite of supplementary programmes, including STEM programmes, Art & Music programmes, Speech & Drama programmes, and other enrichment courses, children can be developed holistically beyond the academics.

Inquiry-Embedded Play Approach
Play-based learning is central to Pat’s philosophy as play time is a demonstration of children’s curiosity and sense of adventure. Through play, children observe, explore, and eventually come to understand the world we live in. In this process, children are naturally inspired to ask, wonder, and form meaningful questions in their minds, promoting critical thinking from young. The Inquiry-Embedded Play Approach revolves around planning intentional, meaningful, and thought-provoking play-based learning experiences to support children’s holistic development.

Relationship-Based Curriculum
Inspired by Magda Gerber’s RIE Philosophy where every child is shown respect through authentic communication that acknowledges their responses, thoughts, and feelings, Pat’s Curriculum has a strong focus on the value of relationships. We recognise children as unique, active meaning makers with their own interests, routines, and preferences, and our educators work closely with them to develop interactions and bonds that are Respectful, Responsive, and Reciprocal. Children who grow in such environments build a secure relationship attachment in which they feel safe to interact with others. This is made possible by our wealth of experienced educators and the small infant-teacher ratio so that educators can effectively observe every child’s communication needs.

Bilingual Immersion Core Curriculum
As the pioneer and trendsetter of the Bilingual Immersion Programme for more than 30 years, Pat’s unique, progressive, and all-encompassing Bilingual Immersion Core Curriculum is one that integrates internationally-renowned programmes and approaches with the requirements of the educational framework in Singapore. In the classroom, both English and Mandarin language teachers are co-partners to the development of the children under their care. This bilingual immersion facilitates effective language acquisition from young as children are encouraged to interact within context throughout the day.

Self-Aware Eco Mindset
Global sustainability refers to our ability to exist and develop without depleting natural resources in the future. This would be especially important for our young, who will grow to inherit the world we live in. At Pat’s, we educate children about their role as future stewards of the earth and challenge them to take concrete steps to care for their environment. Our programmes are thoughtfully designed to imbue messages about sustainability and caring for the environment throughout the year, be it in our recycling activities, events, or in the reinforcement of daily habits. Our teachers model this behaviour and lead by example with the frequent use of recycled materials in creating teaching resources. This helps to communicate the idea that everyone has a part to play in becoming mindful eco warriors in the 21st century.
Our Programmes
Pat’s Schoolhouse has programmes that are specially designed to meet the needs of children across different developmental stages, with a strong focus on the four key domains of development — Communication & Speech, Physical, Social & Emotional, and Cognitive. Our unique blend of programmes spans 5 age groups, including:
INFANT (2 months to 17 months)
Our infant programmes have an infant to staff ratio of 1:3 and are specially curated to help children learn to recognise people, objects, sounds, as well as communicate with gestures and respond appropriately across the emotion spectrum. There are also activities that help them learn to crawl and stand, while developing better control over their limbs to grasp objects. At this age, the use of objects, puzzles, and more are also crucial in helping them explore the world around them.

Rumble Tumble
A wide range of outdoor play activities including water play, and sand play that promote the development of sensory awareness, motor skills, body awareness, spatial awareness, object control, and stability.

Art Attack
Art experiences that encourage creativity and expression with a variety of tools, techniques, and media to invoke children’s artistic competency in drawing, painting, printing, creating collages and constructing 3-dimensional structures. This may include hand and foot printing, stamping, jumbo crayons, and more.

Numeracy
The numeracy programme focuses on the use of different maths learning strategies and hands-on activities to introduce early numeracy concepts and skills, including shapes, colours, sizes, positions, and more.

Think Music, Think Pat’s
The vibrant and holistic music programme is conceptualised by in-house music specialists to help infants experience music with melodies, rhymes, and percussion instruments.

Bilingual Programmes
For much of the classes taught in-house, children get to learn different subjects in a bilingual environment where co-partnering of English and Mandarin language teachers help reinforce language acquisition. Both the English and Mandarin teachers co-own the holistic development of children under their care and co-create the teaching plan together to incorporate and deliver themes, subjects, and topics in a cohesive and immersive bilingual environment. This arrangement surrounds children with equal amount of exposure to English and Mandarin, facilitating language acquisition at a very young age as they are encouraged to interact within context throughout the day.
TODDLER (18 months to 24 months)
The toddler programmes are designed to cater to children as they become more physically active and more communicative. As they start to learn to speak in full sentences, they also develop more distinct emotions and awareness of the self. The programmes also develop them cognitively to hit key milestones like understanding object permanence and increased logical thinking.

Numeracy
The numeracy programme focuses on rote counting and developing a sense for numbers, matching, making comparisons and associations according to size and length, as well as broadening their use of mathematical language.

Show and Tell
Despite the limited vocabulary of toddlers, the Show and Tell programme is a head start into the process of helping young children build confidence in public speaking. Teachers prompt children with questions and provide them with supporting vocabulary after which they can model their speech.

Language & Literacy
Built upon the five components of achieving success in reading and writing — Alphabetic Code, Vocabulary, High Frequency Words, Fluency, and Comprehension — our Language & Literacy Outcomes set progressive learning goals for different age groups. Toddlers are exposed to stories, rhymes, and poems, and learn to follow verbal instructions as well as respond appropriately to simple questions.

Think Music, Think Pat’s
The vibrant and holistic music programme is conceptualised by in-house music specialists to not only help children experience music with melodies, rhymes, and percussion instruments, but also learn to imitate sounds and melodies.

PLAYGROUP (24 months to 36 months)
At our playgroups, children experience a far more rigorous educational regime as their memory, concentration, and learning abilities improve. There are also art and outdoor play programmes that develop them both creatively and physically. With small-group play, it also deepens their socialisation with others.

K2 events (preparation for P1)
During their last year, our Pat’s team work together to prepare our K2 students for transition to P1. Over a span of 10 weeks, our children are given a taste of primary school education. This includes a physical or virtual tour around a primary school, learning about money and time concepts and key numeracy concepts. Children are also exposed to confidence building events such as Readers Theatre and Confidence Camp. The preparation period culminates in a tear and fun-filled graduation ceremony and uniform party that celebrates our children’s education at PSH.
